frame by frame

As a child, I used to watch Disney movies frame by frame to see exactly how they got the pictures to move, and that passion for the craft hasn't died down one bit. While animation isn't the forefront of what I do, I still love it dearly, and dabble in it anytime I get the chance. Storyboards and notably game sprites also pique my interest.

Below you can see some of the small animations I've done over the years. Click them to see a larger version and a little bit of context as to why they were made.

Headless Chicken Idle

One of the first full color animations I ever made. I wanted to give a fun "bobblehead" feel for when the player stood still.

Headless Chicken Walking

You need movement in a platformer, so a walking animation is crucial! I wanted to keep the "bobbing" motion from the idle animation in check, which also helped to add a bit more motion than just the legs.

Headless Chicken Jump

Although chickens can fly, it's not very far, so they'll settle for a jump instead! I really wanted to make the wings a part of the jump, and having them open up was a fun challenge!

Headless Chicken Game Over

Things are dangerous without your head! A "death" animation was difficult to think of without a head on the character, so I went for a very dramatic fall animation instead!

Trying to jump with Kazooie's Talon Trot is very difficult.

This was made as fanart for a stream where the streamers noted how odd the dialogue progresses in Luigi's Mansion, as if E Gadd needs to load his words constantly.

Leif Me Alone

This animation was made as fanart for a moment in the game Bug Fables when the character Leif enters an eating competition!

It's been too long since the drop for the 3 second rule to count. That sandwich is gone...
